Residents in Lebanon face severe threats from toxic food, air, water, and soil, which damage the environment and perpetuate harm across generations. The corrupt political system has consistently failed to address these critical issues and restore human rights and environmental quality. As a scholar and activist, I couldn’t sit idly by; in 2019, I co-founded the Environment Academy (EA) with experts and activists. The EA is committed to developing community-driven solutions for urgent environmental and human rights challenges.
Since 2019, EA has developed a partnership model that empowers communities to address environmental issues through locally rooted, context-driven solutions. The success of EA's projects depended on committed community teams, technical and academic support, and coordination with local authorities. Despite political challenges, the projects have made significant progress, though some required pausing at the study phase due to the need for government-led infrastructure.
